Older people may be getting less travel insurance than they bargained for if they use the holiday cover offered within packaged accounts from some high street banks.

Travel Insurance

It is always best to compare travel insurance deals particularly as research from Saga Travel Insurance shows that the over 50′s may be getting a raw deal if they rely on the travel insurance available from some high street banks.

Those over 70 may not even be eligible for travel cover at all with Barclays, Halifax and HSBC, Saga found.

Many banks’ travel packages do not offer cover for pre-existing medical conditions unless the policyholder has called to declare this and the bank has agreed to cover it.  Saga is advising the over 50′s to check that their travel insurance includes a level of cover to meet their needs.

Saga claim to cover many pre-existing medical conditions and offer comprehensive cover should a holiday be cancelled or baggage be lost of stolen.

Andrew Goodsell, Executive Chairman Saga Group, comments: “At Saga we believe that all over 50s should have access to comprehensive insurance policies.”

“We urge any older people, should they have an included insurance with their bank account, to check that they are fully covered for any pre-existing medical conditions and that there is no upper age limit on that policy”.
