Switch energy supplier online not on the doorstep

Energy company salesmen are out in force, standing on the doorstep encourganing many to switch energy supplier – but the promise of the ‘cheapest standard tariff’ won’t be the ‘cheapest online tariff’.

Energy tariffsWhilst many customers do end up switching energy supplier as the result of doorstep selling, the salesmen can only offer their offline energy tariffs and not the cheapest online energy tariffs.

Salesmen will invariably neatly gloss over the difference between online energy tariffs and offline.

You can compare energy tariffs quickly and easily using a comparison website such as Confused.com or moneysupermarket.com.

As Gareth Kloet, Head of Utilities at Confused.com says ‘Door-to-door salesmen could save you money, expecially if you have never switched provider or tariff before, but be careful – only by using an accredited price comparison site are you able to search the entire market and find the best deals from a wide range of options.’

According to information from Confused.com there is a marked difference between the online energy tariff and the offline offered by all the main energy suppliers.

For example

  • British Gas – Online best £1,019 but Doorstep best £1,085
  • E.On – Online best £1,017 but Doorstep best £1,095
  • EDF – Online best £982 but Doorstep best £1,097
  • Npower – Online best £1,019 but Doorstep best £1,151

All the energy suppliers are pushing their online energy tariffs hence that’s where their best prices are to be found.

There are a huge raft of energy plans available. As it all may seem a little confusing we’ve put together an article on ‘Gas and electricity energy plans – what are they?‘ which might find useful.
