Further to the National Flu Pandemic Service going live, the ABI (Association of British Insuers) have provided more information on travel insurance cancellation claims relating to swine flu.

Swine flu travel insuranceThe ABI has confirmed that for travel insurance claims relating to swine flu the travel insurance industry will accept as medical certification of swine flu

  • the unique ID number issued by the National Pandemic Flu Service, coupled with
  • the label on the prescribed anti-flu drugs which show the individual’s name and the date of issue.

The ABI’s Director of General Insurance and Health, Nick Starling, said that this proof of swine flu diagnosis was being done as the ABI ‘understand that the National Pandemic Flu Service will only authorise an anti-flu prescription to people who are genuinely displaying symptoms of swine flu’.

Insurers will use any supporting documentation issued by the Pandemic Flu Service, so this, along with the medication label, should be kept.

You can compare travel insurance offered from different providers using a comparison website, such as Confused.com.

It’s quick and you’ll easily able to compare the cover available from the different polices and the associated cost.
