Swine flu suspects are to be stopped from boarding flights from Heathrow and other British airports – don’t try and fly if you have or suspect you have swine flu.

Swine flu travel insuranceThis is another step being taken by airlines to try and limit the spread of swine flu.

British Airways and Virgin have confirmed that they will not allow passengers who are showing symptoms to board planes.

Medical advice will be sought at check-in for any passengers giving cause for concern that they may have the H1N1 virus.

If you are suffering, it really isn’t worth trying to board many planes anyway as the chances are growing that you will be identified and quarantined at your destination.

Some countries, such as China, Egypt and Thailand have installed thermal body scanners at airports to identify anyone arriving with a raised temperature – one of the key signs of swine flu.

Prior to even going through the thermal body scanner, anyone aboard an international flight landing in China will have their temperature checked whilst still on board the plane. The same applies in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Other swine flu symptoms to be aware of include a sore throat, runny nose, aching muscles and a headache.

Cancelled holidays or flights as a result of confirmed swine flu will normally be covered by travel insurance policies. You should of course check your specific cover with your insurance provider.
