The Sony Walkman is 30 years old this week, the gadget that changed listening habits. Now with MP3 sales rising are these and all your ‘mobile’ personal possessions covered by your home insurance?

Home InsuranceSo the Sony Walkman marks its 30th anniversary this week and is still loved by many.

There are over 32 million MP3 sales a year now in the UK alone.

But is our home insurance adequate to cover all the personal possessions, like the MP3 palayers, that we carry around?

According to Tescocompare.com, over a third of personal property thefts involve mobile phones or other electrical goods.

You can buy home insurance from many insurance providers but it is critical that you check that it adequately covers the value of your personal possessions.

Using sites such as Tescocompare.com, Gocompare.com or moneysupermarket.com you can easily compare home insurance policies offered by the different providers.

As Debra Williams at Tescocompare comments, ‘Very few of us actually realise how much value we carry around in our bags or on our person on a day to day basis. It’s only ever when it is too late and we come to add up our losses and realise how expensive the personal possessions we carry around really are.’

No wonder it adds up when you think of the MP3 players, iPhones, mobile phones, blackberries, digital cameras we carry around, not to mention the expensive wallets, purses and handbags.

It really is worth checking your insurance policy and making sure the personal possessions cover is adequate.
