Whilst many Brits are off on holiday to soak up the sun, the majority don’t know how to check for skin cancer, despite the high risks, and many are not covered financially for a critical illness.
Research from Friends Provident shows that 63% of Britis don’t know hot to check for skin cancer signs.
Another 42% don’t check moles for any changes or generally don’t check their bodies for cancerous signs.
As recent research from Scottish Provident also shows, whilst many people accept they will financially be affected by a critical illness, most ignore doing anything about it as they think ‘it’ won’t happen to them.
Skin cancer though now affects twice as many people as 20 years ago.
As Head of Protection at Firends Provident, Mark Jones, comments ‘The usual protection offered by sun cream, hats and avoiding direct sun during the middle of the day, can also be supported by an increased personal awareness of how to check for signs of skin cancer.’
CancerResearchUK has a ‘Sun Smart’ website which contains useful information about skin cancer, how to check yourself and symptoms.
