According to a report from PayPal, 84% of consumers list security features as crucial when they are shopping online.

Perhaps this is not surprising, security of our personal information is of critical importance.
The online security requirements noted include trusted payment methods and a clear display of the credit card brands accepted e.g. Visa and Mastercard.
Return policies are also a very important aspect of the security features required.
Consumers are likely to be put off buying from a website if they appear to have either a difficult set of refund procedures or no clear details about how to return goods for a refund.
Interestingly, the consumers top wants for shopping online don’t fully match what merchants believe they want.
According to another report from PayPal, merchants believe time taken for deliveries to arrive and the cost of delivery are top of consumers issue lists when shopping online.
Fundamentally as the General Manager for PayPal Merchant Services in the UK, Cameron McLean, points out ‘Consumers are not looking for flashy designs, complicated tools and alienating jargon, they simply want a secure website that is easy to use.’
This ease of use is also supported by the PayPal report. It showed 78% of consumers surveyed listed website simplicity as a top want for online shopping; websites with a clear layout, easy navigation and one-click payments.
