Scottish Power have today launched PriceSure, a fixed price gas plan. Under it customers can save around 10% on the Scottish Power standard gas prices and it fixes prices until the end of January 2010.

Update February 10: Scottish Power currently have their Online Energy Saver 9 Offer, paying by Direct Debit and providing an annual saving of over £400 on average. Get more details on the Scottish Power website.
The PriceSure product replaces the Discounted Energy Offer from Scottish Power.
Customers who take up the offer will be able to take out a further fixed price gas plan at the end of the period enabling them to continue with fixed gas prices until the end of January 2011.
Head of Marketing at ScottishPower, Gerard Magee said ‘By launching PriceSure, our new fixed price product, customers will have an opportunity to make savings of up to 10% on current standard gas prices. This is part of our long-term strategy to offer price savings where possible, and we will continue to seek out further areas where we can pass-on savings.’ He added that ‘If we continue to see a sustained drop in wholesale energy costs then we will reduce prices as soon as we’re able.’
Other suppliers have started to introduce lower priced energy plans, including the ‘tracker’ style British Gas WebSaver 1 energy tariff.
Update February 10: British Gas have now launched their new Websaver 6 energy plan.
Energy prices have been the subject of much discussion and energy experts have for some time been predicting that, following the considerable reduction in wholesale energy prices over the last year, household energy prices will start to be reduced early in 2009.
However there are some notes of caution creeping in and some concern that prices may move up or at least not fall as much as originally expected. For example, the Israeli action on Gaza and the recent action by Russia to cut off the gas supplies to the Ukraine could both have an impact on prices.
