Save money on your energy bill by switching from a standard tariff to an online energy deal.
Research from moneysupermarket.com shows that by switching from a supplier’s standard tariff to their best online energy deal and paying by monthly direct debit could save an average of £170 annually.
Equally switching away from a supplier’s standard tariff, paying by quarterly cheque or cash to the market leading British Gas Websaver 3 tariff can save on average around £200.
You can use an energy comparison website, such as moneysupermarket.com or uSwitch.com, to ensure you get the best energy deal to suit your needs.
Utilites manager at moneysupermarket.com, Scott Byrom, commented ‘Changing to an online tariff gives consumers the opportunity to keep track of their payments and have a clearer idea of their balance by managing their account online.’
He added ‘Online tariffs based on MDD (Monthly Direct Debit) payments are discounted because less administration is needed – so bill payers can cut out what can be poor customer service from call centres, saving cost, time and paperwork, in one fell swoop.’
With E.On cutting its gas prices last week, there may be other price cuts from the other main energy suppliers to follow.
Currently the Websaver 3 tariff from British Gas remains the market leader.
It could pay though to keep a check of what’s happening to make sure you really are getting the best energy deal.
