Sainsbury’s has beaten Tesco’s with the launch of its first ever ‘Buy Now Free Next Time‘ offer, giving customers the option to buy now and get the product free next time.
Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy announced Bogof Later in October, but this hasn’t yet been implemented in its stores.
But the Sainsburys ‘Buy Now Free Next Time’ has launched today.
Initially it will be available on 2 items in-store – Pampers Baby-Dry Nappies Carry Pack and Sainsbury’s white crusty baguettes.
When a customer buys these products in over 470 stores trialling the offer, they will receive a coupon offering them the free product next time they visit, up to 2 weeks later.
These 2 products have been selected carefully, as Gwyn Burr, Customer Director at Sainsburys, comments on the baguettes ‘This promotion will allow customers to buy freshly baked bread in-store as and when they need it.
Our white crusty baguettes wouldn’t normally be selected as a ‘buy one get one free’ offer item because it is a fresh product that is generally consumed within a day’
Will Tesco’s make a move now and implement their Bogof Later scheme? What about the other supermarkets too? Time will tell.
Meantime, do you think this ‘Buy Now Free Next Time’ scheme is good or a complexity that’s not worth it? Let us have your comments.
