Motorists driving without car insurance costing millions

Those motorists driving without car insurance are costing millions and adding to the costs of the honest drivers.
The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) has published a report showing a staggering 1 in 5 young motorists are driving without car insurance.
This compares to the average number of 1 in 20 drivers being uninsured.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, commented ‘Uninsured driving is not a victimless crime. Young drivers are 10 times more likely to be involved in a collision than more experienced drivers. If they have no insurance, any claim has to be met by the MIB which in turn, is funded by honest drivers.’
AA Insurance is trying to encourage others in the industry to recognise those young drivers trying to improve their driving standards and reduce their risk of making a claim, by offering lower car insurance premiums.
Whilst little has happened so far, some insurers do offer discounts to young drivers who take part in the Pass Plus scheme.
As a young driver you can also take other steps to help minimise your car insurance costs – our article ‘Young Driver Car Insurance‘ explains more.
