In order to ensure you are covered by your travel insurance you must inform your travel insurer of any pre-existing medical conditions.
According to research by Sainsbury’s Bank, some 1.3 million people travelled abroad over the last year with pre-existing medical conditions but didn’t let their travel insurer know about these.
Amazingly, the research also revealed that some 500,000 people with medical conditions travelled abroad without any travel insurance at all.
Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance Manager, Sam Marrs, said ‘The purpose of travel insurance is to ensure that if a disaster does strike, you’ll receive the necessary care and support. Witholding key information such as any medical conditions could, however, mean your cover may be invalidated and in the worst of cases, this could mean facing large hospital bills or arranging your own repatriation.’
As Marrs explained, travel insurance is very competitive and particularly if you have a common medical condition you’ll most likely be able to get cover at a fair and competitive premium.
If you have a more serious medical condition there are specialist insurers available.
For example MedicAlert and insurance broker Heath Lambert have partnered to offer travel insurance for people living with medical conditions, disabilities and allergies.
You can quickly and easily get a travel insurance quote from the many providers, including such as Churchill and Direct Line
