Aviva is offering lower private health insurance premiums to customers with healthy lifestyles.

Private health insurance

Insurance giant Aviva has launched MyHealthCounts – a scheme that rewards customers with healthy lifestyles, a discount against their private health insurance.

Health insurance discounts of up to 15% will be rewarded for those adopting the healthiest lifestyles.  For example a 60 year old male can save up to £176 per year under this scheme.

The MyHealthCounts scheme starts with the customer undertaking an online health check.

The check determines the health of the applicant by looking at factors such as blood pressure, smoking and drinking habits, BMI and the amount of exercise taken.  The results are then amalgamated by the system into a “Q” score.

An applicant with a “Q” score of over 40 out of a 100 will receive the maximum discount against their private health insurance premiums.

Aviva has also negotiated 66% discount off health checks at over 600 pharmacies across the UK when booked through its MyHealthCounts system.

There will also be other incentives such as discounted gym membership.

Dr Doug Wright, Head of Clinical Governance at Aviva UK Health, says “People often associate medical insurance wellness discounts with going to the gym but we recognise that everyone is different. Rather than adopting a “one size fits all approach” MyHealthCounts lets our customers choose the steps they take to improve their lifestyle – however big or small.

And because we want to give them a positive incentive to improve their health, we’re rewarding them for their efforts irrespective of whether they claim on their private health insurance policy. Helping them improve both their own and their financial health.”
