With August one of the most common months for burglary make sure you lock up and secure your home and keep the burglars out – and just in case make sure you home insurance in place.
As research from Direct Line Insurance shows, many people don’t even take simple security steps to protect themselves – like locking sheds and outbuildings, gates or side passages or garden entrances.
With the summer in full swing and the tempatation to leave doors and windows open, it can be an open invitation to opportunistic burglars.
Check your home insurance is up to scratch should you become the unfortunate victim of a burglary.
As Andrew Lowe, Head of Home Insurance at Direct Line, says ‘people should take extra care to prevent unwanted access to their homes and gardens, as carlessness can lead to rich pickings from opportunistic thieves.’
Locking away tools and ladders that could help burglars gain access is also a good idea.
Also, don’t fall into a false sense of security if you are in the house as many burglaries happen whilst people are in the home.
