Home insurance flooded with claims

Many parts of the UK have this week felt the full force of mother nature with short, sharp storms giving rise to home insurance claims for flooding, storm damage and lightning strikes.

Home InsuranceDirector of AA Insurance, Simon Douglas, said ‘We are getting claims from places where there is no previous history of flooding.

Drainage systems are often unable to cope with some of the sudden and extreme downpours we have been experiencing. As a result, homes are being flooded in unexpected places.’

Worryingly this sharp rise in storm related claims comes on the back of a recent ABI report which shows that almost 25% of people have stopped their home insurance to save money.

As Douglas says ‘Many will be regretting that decision now’ and suggests ‘now would be a very good time for those who have not renewed their cover to look for a more competitive insurer rather than cancelling altogether.’

As well as AA insurance, there are many home insurance providers from whom you can get comprehensive cover.

You can use a home insurance comparison website, such as Gocompare.com or Confused.com, to get quotes from multiple providers at once so that you can easily compare select the policy that best meets your needs.
