With many people still booking their Summer 2009 holidays and with the major travel operators about to release their 2010 holiday deals, don’t forget you don’t have to buy travel insurance from a tour operator.

Travel insuranceAs Confused.com research shows, shopping around to get the best travel insurance is a wise move.

According to ABTA, the Association of British Travel Agents, and Datamonitor, 40% of all travel insurance policies were sold by travel agents last year.

But critically,  according to the research, by not shopping around  holidaymakers could be paying almost 500% more for their travel insurance than they need to.

Holiday travel insurance is a must-have but it’s important to get the cover you need at the best price – save money if you can, but of course don’t cut back on the required cover.

You can compare travel insurance by using a price comparison website such as Confused.com or Gocompare.com.

Make sure you check the details on the cover offered and ensure it really does meet your holiday travel needs.

Don’t forget to also get the best deal on your holiday travel money.

MoneyHighStreet recently did a review of currency cards to consider whether thay are the best option for holiday travel money.

You may find this useful – currency cards are really growing in popularity.
