According to research by Broadband Expert, going over your mobile broadband limit could cost £200.

Mobile BroadbandThe research shows that you could be faced with this hefty bill for exceeding your limit by just 1GB.

The different mobile broadband providers charge differently for exceeding agreed download limits:

  • O2 charges 19.6p per Mb
  • 3 charges 10p per Mb
  • Orange charges 1.46p per Mb
  • Vodafone charge £15 per Gb, although this is equivalent to 1.46p per Mb Vodafone charge in 1Gb blocks

T-Mobile is the only mobile broadband provider that doesn’t charge for going over your agreed limit.

Broadband Expert’s Commercial Director, Rob Webber said ‘whilst many deals may appear to be very closely matched it is important to take excess charges into account, as there can be huge differences between one provider and another.’

To put download requirements into context, downloading an episode of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on the BBC iPlayer would amount to the equivalent of around 1GB.

T-Mobile seem to be getting positive press for their mobile broadband service, recently being found by Which? to offer the fastest service.

They offer a great range of packages, including their pay monthly broadband deals which include a free laptop.
