It’s estimated that some 900,000 drivers under 30 are driving without car insurance, but with 500 uninsured vehicles seized each day you’re more likely to get caught and face hefty consequences than you think.
As the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) launches it’s ‘Stay Insured’ campaign it is highlighting the consequences of driving without car insurance – they are hefty, including
- Vehicle seizure
- a minimum of 6 licence penalty points
- Fixed penalty of £200.
If you’re car is confiscated then you face a £150 car recovery cost and you must buy car insurance and prove you have it before you can get the car back.
Whilst 60% of people don’t think they’ll get caught for driving whilst uninsured, this is not the case.
There are as many as 500 uninsured vehicles seized every day and an average of one driver convicted every three minutes!
With 3 in 4 drivers looking to cut their car insurance costs, driving without car insurance is not an option – if you do it’s a criminal offence.
As Ashton West, Chief Executive of the MIB, said ‘There are ways in which they can save on costs AND stay adequately insured, such as shopping around for quotes, opting for pay-as-you-drive cover or taking advanced driving lessons’
It is important that drivers match their insurance to their lifestyle and pick the most appropriate cover for themselves, whilst also remembering that the cheapest policy might not always be the best one for them’.
