Research from Sainsburys Car Insurance shows that 58% of motorists have been victims of road rage in the last year. Alarmingly though most car insurance does not specifically cover personal injury from road rage.
According to Sainsburys, of those people who have been a victim of road rage, some 330,000 motorists have been physically assaulted during the incident.
Drivers have felt road rage for a number of different reasons, the highest percentage being for tailgating.
This is followed by drivers pulling out at junctions when they shouldn’t and changing lanes without indicating.
The South West interestingly has the highest percentage of people who have been the victim of road rage at 65%.
That said, the percentage for Yorkshire and Humberside, West Midlands, North West and Eastern regions are all 60% or more.
Staying calm whilst driving clearly needs to be worked at by many people. Advice from Sainsbury’s includes:
- Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination
- Ensure your seating position is comfortable
- Work out your route in advance and listen to the radio for traffic news
and perhaps most importantly count to 10 before reacting to somebody else’s poor driving.
