Debt is threatening families as 170,000 more children live in households without work.

Debt problems

New figures from the Office for National Statistics show an increase over 12 months of 170,000 children in households without work.

The high cost of living and difficulty in finding suitable jobs is driving many families into debt.  As money problems mount, many families may fall prey to loan sharks.

Families with increasing financial difficulties may find a debt management program helpful, however the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) is calling on the Chancellor to create a recession survival package for beleagured families.

The Chief Executive of the CPAG said “This situation with families losing work and income is of tremendous concern and calls for urgent action.

“We know the harm done to the wellbeing of children when there’s no longer enough money coming into the house to keep up with basic essentials.!

“It not only harms children today but has social and economic costs for us all in the long term.”
