Car insurance personal injury claims rise

7 August 2009 By MoneyhighStreet Staff 2 Comments

The number of car insurance personal injury claims is on the rise, with 1,200 whiplash claims alone per day last year.

Car insuranceThe rise in personal injury claims comes despite the Department of Transport report that overall road casualties were down 8% for the year ending March 2009, compared with the previous year.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said ‘This year has seen fuel prices rise along with other demands on family budgets as well as rising levels of redundancy, all of which discourages car use: indeed, the Department for Transport notes that traffic volumes fell by 2 per cent over the year.

But the number of personal injury claims is going up.’

Personal injury cover may not be fully provided as part of standard car insurance cover, rather part of an optional extra offering legal protection or assistance.

This legal protection cover provides an agreed level of legal help to get compensation for personal injuries received as part of an accident.

You can compare car insurance offered by many different providers using a comparison website, such as Confused.com, Gocompare.com or Comparethemarket.com.

It is important to get the car insurance cover you need, at the best price.
