BT Broadband speed to more than double

The BT Broadband speed is to more than double to 20Mb/s and the upgrade is free.
BT Broadband has some 4.8 million customers and over 60,000 have already benefitted from the faster broadband speeds by taking part in a BT trial.
The faster speed uses ADSL2 technology and will be rolled out to more homes in the summer. Business will start to benefit immediately.
It will though only be available through selected telephone exchanges. These though serve more than 40% of the UK’s homes and businesses.
BT proposes to extend the coverage to 55% by the end of March 2010.
As well as improving download speeds, upload speeds will also increase to up to 1Mb/s.
Home wiring can often slow broadband speeds. To tackle this BT will be offering their BT Broadband Accelerator free (+ £2.50 postage & packing) where it is needed. It will remove interference and improve both speed and reliability.
BT home users will benefit from ADSL2+ from early summer. New customers in areas with an enabled exchange will automatically get the faster broadband service. Costs will start at £7.78 per month.
Existing customers can upgrade for free but will have to sign a new contract.
