A study by the Office of Communications has revealed that a growing number of British consumers prefer cheaper bundled deals when buying broadband products.

The Office of Communication’s annual Consumer Experience study showed that 35 percent of consumers bought discounted bundles in 2008, an increase of five percent during the last 12 months.
Ofcom’s study also showed that consumers who opted for bundled broadband services, or those who pay for all or some of their telecommunications services from one provider, saves between £88 and £140 a year.
Preferably, a bundled service should include broadband, mobile and pay TV services from one provider.
The result of the study also highlights the fact that the majority of UK consumers are getting more intelligent in choosing the best value for their money, especially in communication deals. It also showed that UK consumers are getting better telecoms deals than their counterparts in the rest of Europe.
In November, Ofcom disclosed that the launch of a new discussion document to consider the possibility of utilising new technology to raise the wireless internet coverage all-over the UK and develop broadband services in rural areas.
Ofcom said in a statement, “More generally, consumers are not switching as much in the communications sector as they are in other sectors such as energy and car insurance That’s why we’ve begun a review of consumer switching to improve consumers’ experience of switching providers and plan to consult on the next steps in 2010.”
Eurostat disclosed last week households penetration of broadband services in the UK has reached 69 percent this year, a significant jump from the estimated 62 percent recorded in the same period in 2008.
