British Gas has launched a new online energy plan, Websaver 4, bringing British Gas into the energy price war, taking on the energy battle with EDF Energy.

Online energy plan

Update August 2010: British Gas have now launched their Websaver 9 energy plan which offers a minimum 6% discount against the British Gas standard tariff rates until 31 October 2011. You can get all the details on the British Gas website.

Update February 10: British Gas have now launched their new Websaver 6 energy plan. You can get all the details on the British Gas website.

Websaver 4 from British Gas gives an average energy bill of £994.

But this new online energy plan doesn’t take British Gas back to being the all out cheapest energy supplier.

Whilst the online energy plan from EDF Energy comes in lower than Websaver 4, at an average of £983, it is not available in all regions – only available in 10 out of 14.

British Gas can therefore particularly target customers in these areas.

You can compare online energy plans for your area using a comparison website such as uSwitch.com or moneysupermarket.com or you can go directly to the British Gas or EDF website.

As Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch.com, comments on the Websaver 4 plan ‘This is another shot in the price war – but it certainly isn’t the final one.

It will shake things up, but we are certain to see other suppliers making moves of their own.

This is great news for consumers who are starting to see some very competitive energy prices coming onto the market, which, if they take advantage, will help them to manage their energy costs going forward.’
