Barclay card launch credit card pre-application check

Barclaycard has announced an innovative credit card pre-application check that allows potential customers to test their eligibility for a BarclayCard.

The potential customer completes a simple form on the Barclaycard web site that automatically assesses their credit worthiness and eligibility. You can also check your credit history using services such as Credit Expert.
Importantly, the applicants credit history is not affected by this search as a formal credit application has not been undertaken.
Instead, a “footprint” is left on the applicants credit history to show that a check has been made, which has no bearing on their ability to secure credit in the future.
Since its launch on 25th August, 4000 potential customers have used the service, however there are no figures to show how many of these were eligible for a Barclaycard.
Amer Sajed, Chief Executive, Barclaycard UK, said: “Consumers currently need to apply in full for a credit card in the UK, without knowing whether they are likely to be accepted or not, leaving a search on their credit file which can potentially have a negative impact on their credit rating.”
“This unique pre-application check solves this problem. The check can be completed in a few minutes and gives consumers a good indication of whether their application will be accepted.”
