Telecoms companies among FTSE 100 risers

Telecommunications providers were among the risers on the FTSE 100 today, which closed down 12.81 points at 4,169.21.
BT Group gained ten points, or 8.89 per cent to close at 122.5. The share price of both Vodafone Group and Inmarsat also improved.
Vodafone Group, which opened with a price of 120 increased in value by 1.80 per cent, gaining 2.20 points. Inmarsat gained 7.75 points to close at 399.50.
Other risers included Man Group which gained 9.74 per cent and Old Mutual, which gained 4.6 points to close at 54.100.
Meera Patel, senior analyst at Hardgreaves Lansdown, remarks that the markets always tend to do well towards the end of the year, following a turbulent few months during the financial downturn.
She said: "Generally speaking the end of the year tends to be quite a good time for markets to do well."
