Research by uSwitch.com shows almost 20% of drivers forget their MOT renewal date. Driving without a valid MOT ceritificate invalidates a car insurance policy.

Car InsuranceOf the 4.7 million drivers who forget their MOT renewal date, over 3 million admit to carrying on driving illegally even once they know their MOT certificate is out of date.

It takes a third of these drivers a month to book their MOT once the renewal date has passed.

Whether it’s because of sheer forgetfulness or a change of car, driving without an MOT is illegal and automatically invalidates your car insurance policy.

If as a driver you are involved in an accident whilst driving without a valid MOT certificate you are liable for the damages yourself – you are ould not be able to make a claim to your insurance company.

Car accident costs can be expensive. The average cost of a car insurance claim according to the AA is nearly £2,500.

Not only that though, when you do renew you car insurance, your premiums are likely to be significantly higher if you have an IN10 offence.

This is the offence you would be charged under if found driving a car without an MOT – it is for using a vehicle uninsured against third party risks.

So it is clearly worth making sure you get your MOT on time and of course make sure you keep your car insurance valid.
