Thanks Chris, I did as you said and Q98 is running fine in Win7 Ultimate. I can't backup to a USB stick, but I can back up to an XD card, so I'm happy. Many thanks, Kevin

I use windows 7 and Quicken XP. I backup my files onto a DVD RW using my computer's dvd burning software (Roxio). There are 5 Qdata files to back up.

Veronique.

To disable Quicken Registration, do the following:

(1) Click on Online (from toolbar)
(2) Press on your keyboard 'Cntrl' and 'shift' simultaneously and click on 'one step update'

Hope this helps.

I havebeen using Quicken since the early 90s, and since it worked well I had no need to upgrade. Now I have Win7... I have managed to get Quicken 98 (release for Year 2000 Solution) to run on Windows 7 Ultimate in the virtual machine XP mode. I have unshared the USB stick so that it is only visible on the virtual machine. I can see my files on the USB stick, and I can open the quicken files on USB stick, but I cant backup to the USB stick, either when using the files on the USB stick or the files on the Win7 drive. For the latter I get the quicken message that the "Your Back Up Disk is Out of Space. Insert a different disk and ckick OK"... which is nonsense since there is still 8GB free. For the former, I get "Unable to open source file". There must be an easy fix!

I have been using my Quicken XG for l years on my old computer without any problem now for at least 5 years however when I tried to open the Quicken folder the other day, it told me that my "Quicken License2 (clearly American spelling) had expired. As it is an old computer I never go online with it and cannot understand why it should suddenly decide that I was out of Licence, especially as Intuit has discontinued Quicken and I have never gone on line with it or updated it!
I was thinking of transferring the whole folder to my newer computer as explained in the correspondence on this site however I cannot do so since I am barred from opening the folder!!!

I had many of the same problems updating 2001 to win7 ultimate 64bit, but managed to eventually install after closing all antivirus/malware programs, but still unable to choose or tick accounts in reports until I took compatability mode back to win 98/me. Now it seems, so far, to work ok. except it will only print in black & white, not colour.
I had even tried quicken 2011 but unable whichever way to upload my backups, even the ms money route failed.

Being a great believer in 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', my UK version of Quicken 98(2000 bug fix) has seen me through XP and Vista. I now even have it running on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. The secret seems to be not to let the CD ROM's auto-run have its way. I ran the setup.exe file from within the CD's W95 directory. Also, if you want the back-up process to see other drives, you need to alter the compatibility of the qw.exe file to run in a W9x environment (find the file with Win Explorer and right-click on it). Incidentally, the box for typing in the file structure for the back-ups won't take long structures, as it was really only designed to take e.g. a:\quicken or some such. I send my my back-ups to my 'Dropbox' directory so that it's backed up to a 'cloud' somewhere out there.

p.s. Win7 has no idea of the provenance of such an old version and gives out dire warnings that an unknown file is about to make changes to your PC, but you can turn this notification off.
