Women are more concerned about their personal finances than men, a financial website has said.

According to the Moneywise.co.uk, 43 per cent of UK females feel "concerned and uncertain" about their money - a feeling shared by 25 per cent of men.

A similar gender gap was found by Moneywise.co.uk on the question of whether or not people were "confident" that their savings would see them through retirement.

Just under six in ten men said that they were confident, compared to 26 per cent of women.

Rachel Lacey at Moneywise.co.uk said: "As figures on economic growth and unemployment show that we are now heading into a recession it seems that women are taking this more seriously than men.

"Research has shown that women are increasingly more likely to have the final say on financial decisions within the household and are perhaps therefore more aware of the current rising cost of living."
