SSE announces price hikes

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has become the latest UK energy company to hike its tariffs.
As of Monday next week, the company is increasing its electricity and gas prices by 19.2 per cent 29.2 per cent respectively.
In keeping with its rival energy providers, the company cited soaring wholesale energy costs as justification for the move.
Alistair Phillips-Davies, a spokesperson from SSE, said: "Energy suppliers have to take steps towards covering their costs and I am sorry that we cannot delay these price rises any longer.
"Although this will be little consolation, these increases would have been even higher but for the fact wholesale prices have fallen back a little in recent weeks."
Following increases from British Gas, E.ON, EDF Energy and now SSE, Scottish Power and npower are now the only remaining members of the so-called big six to yet announce a hike.
