Scottish & Southern have announced they’re cutting their duel fuel gas prices by 4% and their single fuel gas prices by 7%.

Gas pricesThese Scottish & Southern (SSE) cuts in gas prices will take effect from 29 march 2010 and it follows the recent cut announced by British Gas.

With these price cuts, the SSE average annual dual fuel bill will drop by £30, from £1,192 to £1,162.

Anne Robinson, Director of Cosumer Policy at uSwitch, said “Although these reductions are welcome it’s important that consumers don’t become complacent.”

She added “Even taking into account cuts this year, we still expect household energy bills to end up around £300 higher than two years ago putting even more emphasis on the need for consumers to start managing their energy costs.

We can all do this by making sure we pay the lowest possible price for our energy and learning to use less of it. Online energy plans consistently offer the most competitive prices – currently costing around £300 a year less than suppliers’ standard plans and offering households a real opportunity to take their energy bills back to pre-2008 levels.”

For many switching to a new energy supplier will be the best way forward, although if this isn’t an option then make sure you are on the cheapest energy plan with your current supplier.
