ScottishPower Raises Energy Prices

ScottishPower has followed SSE and British Gas with their energy prices going up this week.
ScottishPower is putting its prices up by 2% or £17 for gas and 8.9% or £42 for electricity from 25th November.
This rise will hit its standard tariffs and will add an extra £52 to the average annual ScottishPower standard dual fuel bill, which will increase from £1,305 to £1,357 as a result.
Whilst SSE and British Gas will also be raising their energy prices, EDF Energy has ruled out an increase, committing to a price freeze on their standard tariffs until March 2011.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com said “ScottishPower will be hitting customers over the winter months when energy usage is at a peak. The increase may be moderate, but the timing is miserable. The fact is that seven out of ten people cut down or rationed their energy use last winter because of cost – winter price hikes will simply force even more down this route.”
Maybe it’s time to switch energy supplier? As Ann Robinson added “In a time of pricing uncertainty it’s important that consumers take action. For those who want to protect themselves from any future price rises there are some competitive fixed price energy plans available that will offer peace of mind.
For those who simply want to pay the lowest possible price for their energy then it’s time to look at suppliers’ online energy plans which are consistently the most competitive in the market.”
