EDF Energy Freezes Energy Prices

One of the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers, EDF Energy, has committed to keep its standard prices fixed until at least March 2011.
Jim Poole, director of residential customers at EDF Energy, said: “With people using over six times more gas in winter than in summer, any help we can provide at this time of year goes a long way.
“With this Winter Price Freeze Guarantee we are giving customers the good news that EDF Energy’s competitive prices will remain at their current levels throughout this winter.”
EDF Energy is also offering new customers who switch to their Dual Fuel Online S@ver Version 7 tariff a £100 Welcome Bonus.
This announcement follows the recent one by SSE that it would be putting its gas prices up by 9.4% from 1 December 2010.
As Scott Byrom, energy manager at moneysupermarket.com, comments “EDF’s pledge not to raise standard gas and electricity prices over the winter months is reassuring news for the majority of it’s customers.
While a price freeze is good news, it doesn’t apply to all tariffs. Moreover, its standard deal doesn’t offer the best value, however, the online tariff from EDF Energy, Online Saver 7 is currently one of the cheapest deals on the market offering a saving of £300 against its standard deal. ”
If you are on a standard tariff with any of the energy suppliers you are not going to be on the best deal. Online tariffs are always the cheapest.
As MoneyHighstreet reported yesterday energy bill payers are wasting money simply by not trying to get the best deal on their energy supply.
With some 40% of our annual energy consumption takes place in the winter months between November and January so now really is the time to look at switching energy supplier – it could certainly save you money and it’s easier to do than you might think.
