Buy Heating Oil Early To Save MoneyCitizens Advice, in conjunction with Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) and the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), are launching a campaign to to encourage those who rely on heating oil to join a club and buy early to save money and get supplier more quickly.

As Gillian Guy, Chief Executive at Citizens Advice, said “With the double hazard of another harsh winter predicted and the soaring cost of heating oil, we are concerned at the number of people we see who are anxious about staying warm through the freezing winter months, as many can’t afford the high costs of heating bills.

“Citizens Advice wants everyone to get the best deal they can, and our evidence suggests that the best way of doing this for people living off-grid is to buy as early as possible, and join a collective purchase initiative like an oil club.”

Ordering heating oil during peak times means you are unlikely to get the best deal from suppliers.

Oil clubs can help to save money on fuel costs and also help the environment by cutting down the number of tanker journeys on roads. Find out more on the Citizens Advice’s website.

MoneyHighStreet comments: “Not surprisingly perhaps as we approach the colder time of year, the subject of heating oil is hitting thepress. Recently for example we covered the action the OFT has taken to ensure that consumers can better compare heating oil deals on sites such as boilerjuice.co.uk and fuelfighter.co.uk.

“The campaign by Citizen’s Advice is welcomed and it is clear that using an oil club can be a great way to save money.

“As well as trying to save money on buying fuel though it is worth looking at how you can also reduce your energy consumption to save money on you your energy bills. For example have you insulated your loft?

“Are you guilty of wasting money on sloppy energy habits? For example can you save on the amount of water you boil each time in your kettle to make just a single mug of coffee?

“With energy prices as high as they are you need to explore every angle to help save money.”
