As energy prices rise, to help British Gas have launched a new scheme to provide free loft or cavity insulation for its dual fuel customers.

British Gas free insulationThe free insulation offer is being done on a first come first served basis and will be available to 200,000 homes.

Loft insulation helps stop warm air being lost through the roof and can help save significantly on energy bills. Although some do have loft insulation, frequently it is not at the recommended thickness.

Cavity insulation helps stop the loss of heat through the walls by filling the gap between the inner and outer walls with insulating material. With it you can save around £110 per year.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch.com, says “We welcome British Gas’ new insulation programme. The recent cold weather has taken its toll with our statistics showing that over 14 million households have gone without heating at some point this winter to keep energy costs down.

“There are many ways customers can implement energy efficiency measures in their home; two major options are loft and cavity wall insulation.

British Gas are offering this for free, but customers will have to be quick as it’s only available to the first 200,000 who apply. If they miss out, consumers can take other energy efficiency measures such as installing a standby saver or an energy monitor.

Customers should also ensure that they are paying the lowest possible price for the energy they do use, to cushion themselves further from the impact of recent energy price hikes.”

British Gas is also offering flexible payments and payment holiday for its customers with online customers and a direct debit setup.
