Many Car Insurance Policies Do Not Provide Courtesy Car

Only 23% of car insurance policies will pay for a courtesy car if a car is stolen or written, new research indicates.
Research by Defaqto, an independent financial research company has found large differences in the way that courtesy cars are offered under various comprehensive motor insurance policies. Their findings show that 49% of policies will not provide a courtesy car, whereas 28% will offer a courtesy car, but only as chargeable optional extra.
Just under a quarter (23%) of policies offer a courtesy car as a standard part of their cover.
People in the 35 to 45 year age group seem to value the provision of a courtesy car most, particularly if they have children.
Having a courtesy car from the time a claim is made through to completion of the repair, or recovery from theft, is seen as one of the most important features of car insurance, so consumers should shop around to ensure that their policy does offer a courtesy car and and an affordable price, a point underlined by Mike Powell, Insight Analyst for General Insurance at Defaqto, who said
“When purchasing cover, consumers must ensure that they are aware of the provider’s courtesy car provision. Finding out that a courtesy car is not available when you need one could be very costly, especially if you have to hire a car to continue your day to day activities”.
