Many people will be buying a new car, particularly with the new ’10′ registration-plate appearing on 1 March and drivers are being urged to get to know their new cars before heading out on the road.
M&S Car Insurance has found that many drivers will take to the road in their new vehicle without fully understanding how the car works.
Worryingly, around 20% of drivers find out how such as the windscreen wipers and hazard lights work as they drive along. Many people also have trouble with finding out how to alter the seat position – let’s hope this isn’t investigated whilst driving along too!
Over a third of drivers of new cars don’t read the manual at all before driving them for the first time.
David Wells, M&S Head of Insurance, said: ‘Whether it’s a brand new car or a used vehicle, most garages should talk you through a vehicle before you drive it away. To avoid taking risks and potentially causing an accident, it is important to take time to familiarise yourself with the features of a car that’s new to you.’
M&S Premier Car Insurance has been Five-Star Rated for features and benefits by Defaqto, an independent research company. UK and European Breakdown Cover included, covering you not just your car.
Car insurance is a requirement of the law. All drivers in the UK must be insured and driving a vehicle that you are not insured to drive is a criminal offence.
