Personal information of Ladbrokes gamblers offered for sale

I was shocked to read an article in the Mail Online about how the confidential records of millions of British gamblers who bet with bookmaker Ladbrokes had been offered for sale to The Mail on Sunday.
This huge case of identity theft has resulted in a huge criminal investigation as the data records offered for sale included customers’ home addresses, details of their gambling history, customer account number, dates of birth, phone numbers and email addresses.
Ladbrokes have involved the police and are contacting customers to ressure them that their credit card details, passwords and other financial details are safe.
This whole area of identity theft and identity fraud is such big business now. We all need to be careful to protect personal information as best we can.
As for identity fraud, as well as taking steps to prevent it, there is identity fraud protection insurance that you can buy. It doesn’t cost a lot but gives you some great protection.
For your info, MoneyHighStreet has teamed up with Baxters to offer Identity Fraud protection at just £19.99 a year – including a fantastic 20% discount for MoneyHighStreet readers.
