Buying a home is a huge commitment and yet the majority of us only have a few quick viewings before we enter a contract to buy. If we just did some simple research though we could help avoid turning our dream home purchase into a nightmare.
It’s true to say that buying a home is for many of us the single biggest purchase we’ll ever make, but how many of us really do our homework before making this huge commitment?
If we buy a car, we invariably take it for a test drive first, just to make sure we like it and it does what the salesman and all the good car magazines tell us it does. Above all we make sure that it meets our expectations and our needs.
You can’t go for such a test drive when buying a house. At best you might get a few quick viewings over the space of a couple of weeks before having to sign on the dotted line.
Unfortunately, this lack of research time can see many new home owners hit by unexpected problems that can drain finances and leave big questions over whether it was the right decision to buy it in the first place.
So how can you make sure that your dream home doesn’t turn into a nightmare?
Are you aware of all the costs that have to be considered? What are the biggest mistakes that home owners make before buying a property and what are the key things you should be checking out before making an offer?
